SCOTT DAYTON

 

Scott Cooper Dayton was born on July 30th, 1974 and was raised in Woodbridge, VA.  On February 17, 1993 he reported to Boot Camp at Naval Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, IL. In his 23 years of service, he served in multiple units and positions, including tours as a Boatswains Mate with the USS Pyro (1993-1994), USS Flint (1994-1995), and the USS Cole (1996-1999). Following these assignments, he reported to RTC Great Lakes in 1999 where he served as a Rescue Swimmer instructor until April of 2002. During this time, Scott was selected to attend Dive School and EOD School at Eglin Air Force Base, FL.

Scott reported to Naval Special Clearance Team ONE in San Diego, CA in March of 2003 where he served as a Marine Mammal Handler and Leading Petty Officer of Foxtrot Platoon.  In March of 2006, he transferred to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit TWO in Virginia Beach, VA where he was assigned to Detachment EIGHT. While on this team, Scott deployed to Iraq with SEAL Team TWO in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  Upon his return from this deployment, Scott checked in to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit TWELVE where he was immediately assigned as the Leading Petty Officer of Platoon 12-7. In May of 2011, Scott checked in to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Training and Evaluation Unit TWO at Fort Story, VA. In May of 2014, Scott returned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit TWO where he was assigned as the Leading Chief Petty Officer of PLT 2-8-2.  In October of 2016, Scott deployed to Syria in support of Combined Joint Task Force, Operation Inherent Resolve.

Senior Chief Petty Officer Dayton’s awards and decorations include a Bronze Star Medal with Valor, Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (7 awards), Combat Action Ribbon (2 awards), Scott is survived by his loving wife Kristen, his daughter Hailey, and his son, Cole.
